What we hold when you have a car tuned, why we hold it, and what happens to your original ECU file.
Redline Performance Ltd is the data controller. Registered in England and Wales, company number 13402277, at Unit 9, Lenton Industrial Estate, Lilac Grove, Nottingham, NG9 1PL. For anything about your data, email bookings@redlineperformance.co.uk or ring 0115 496 0177.
When we tune a car we take a copy of the calibration already on it and keep it. This matters to you in two ways, and we would rather set both out than leave them implied.
Why we keep it: so the car can be put back to standard. That is what makes the 30-day guarantee possible, and it is why somebody who was tuned by us in 2016 can still have their original file reinstated today.
What it is not: it is a copy of manufacturer software as it sat on your vehicle, held for your benefit. We do not sell it, share it, or use it to tune anybody else’s car. If you want it deleted, say so — but understand that we then cannot put your car back for you.
| What for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Quoting figures for your vehicle | Steps taken at your request before a contract |
| Carrying out the work and keeping the job record | Performance of our contract with you |
| Holding your original file so the car can be reverted | Performance of our contract, and our legitimate interests |
| Dyno results kept against the registration | Our legitimate interests in evidencing work done |
| Publishing a result or a photograph of your car | Your consent, withdrawable at any time |
| Invoices, VAT and accounting | Compliance with a legal obligation |
| Offers and service reminders | Your consent, withdrawable at any time |
Runs are stored against the registration so we can compare a car against itself over time, and so we can answer honestly when somebody with the same model asks what one made.
Where a result appears publicly on this site it is the car, the figures and nothing else — no registration, no owner name. If you would rather yours was not shown at all, tell us and it comes off.
| Record | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Enquiries that never became a booking | 12 months | People come back, and it saves you repeating yourself |
| Job records and dyno results | 6 years | The limitation period for contract claims under the Limitation Act 1980 |
| Original ECU files | Indefinitely, unless you ask | So the vehicle can always be returned to standard |
| Invoices and accounting records | 6 years | HMRC requires tax and VAT records for six years |
| Offers list | Until you unsubscribe | Consent, withdrawn when you say so |
Under UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it where we have no legal reason to keep it, to restrict what we do with it, to send it to another provider, or to stop marketing at any time. Email us and we will respond within one month at no charge.
Two honest limits. Where a record is kept because HMRC or the Limitation Act requires it, we cannot delete it early even if you ask. And deleting your original ECU file is your right, but it removes our ability to put the car back to standard for you afterwards.
Tell us first — most things are sorted the same day. If you are not satisfied you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
